1. Gotye – Somebody that I used to Know.

    I love this song. I don’t mean that it’s just a track which I smile at and sing along to when it comes on the radio though. No. I mean I love this song; I have been listening to it ad nauseam at full volume for weeks now. And I’m nowhere near bored of it. I’m still investing as much emotion into the chorus as I sing, dance, and prance along as I did the first time I heard it. My fists are clenched, my eyes are squeezed shut, my knees are bent as I perform an 80s lean, and my lungs are doing nothing less than belt out the lyrics (which are helpfully provided in the album booklet – you don’t see that very often anymore, thank you Gotye).

    ‘It’s very Phil Collins’ commented my boyfriend as I listened to the track for the 47th time.  And there it was: nail on the head. The way I’ve been acting every time ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ comes on is the exact way I act when ‘that’ part of ‘In the Air Tonight’ arrives! (3 minutes 40 seconds in: you know the bit I mean). I dare you to not get ever so slightly 80s when listening to this.

     

    I am reminded of this scene from ‘Easy A’ -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9MvUdR6j3w which I originally laughed at while thinking ‘I used to do that when I was 14, how tragic’…apparently though, considering my reaction to Gotye’s track, things haven’t changed that much in 8 years.

     

    The song’s being played a lot on 6music just now, and I believe on Radio1 also, so when you hear it know that somewhere (probably in my kitchen) I am well and truly power ballad-ing along.
